Client Server Networks

Advantages

  • Security is better - centralised, one person is given responsibility for it
  • Centralised data - data is held on a file server which means that all users have access to the same set of data
  • Backups are taken centrally - regular and people dont have to be responsible for taking back ups
  • Faster access to programs and files - servers are used which are powerful computers
  • Centralised administration - all the adminstration of the network is performed centrally so users do not have to worry about it

Disadvantages

  • More expensive - servers are expensive
  • Need specialist knowledge - need to have a person who has good ICT knowledge to maintain the network
  • Software is sophisticated and expensive
  • If the server breaks the network is unusable

Evaluation

Good for large networks. Less likely to lose data as it is backed up centrally. Too expensive for smaller business, better for larger businesses who have alot of information and needs high security
