China- Developed or Developing?

Similarities

  • 10% below poverty line
  • 90% adult literacy rate
  • 7/1000 death rate per year
  • 12/1000 birth rate per year
  • 28% growth of production / manufacturing
  • 1.3 billion population

Differences

  • 23/1000 infant mortality rate
  • $6,800 GDP per capita
  • 49% primary industry employment, 22% secondary, 29% tertiary
  • 75 year life expectancy
  • 1.73 fertility rate
  • 142 per km2 population density- rural

Overall comparison

Developing because although as an economy China has a lot of growth, the GDP per capita and 75 year life expectancy are around 100th in the world, meaning the average person in China has a very low income and therefore less money to pay on healthcare etc.. This may be due to the 142 per km2 population density, as people either live in very rural or very urban areas, with either impacting health and income. This is evident as the employment structure is mainly primary, but there is a fairly even spread between secondary and tertiary, indicating the country is gradually developing.
