Cause

  • Bodcastle is in the South West of England.
  • It is in the North East of Cornwall.
  • Bodcastle is along the coast of Cornwall by the Celtic Sea.
  • It is North East of Newquay about 50km away.
  • About 20km away from the County line East.
  • About 20km away from the Badmin Moor which is South to South East of Bodcastle.
  • Truro is approximately 80km South West of Bodcastle.
  • 140m cubed per second at its peak hit Bodcastle (discharge). Whereas the average flow was 0.5 m cubed per second.
  • About 25ml in 15 mins rainfall fell.
  • Deforestation meant that the water could flow freely.
  • The houses were on a flood plain.
  • Steep slopes allowed large amounts of water to flow straight into the city.
  • Caused by a rainstorm that came from the Atlantic Ocean and caused by prolonged rainfall.
  • The river bank broke.

  • About 1000 residents were affected by the flood.
