Artificial and Natural selection

  • Artificial similar to natural in the sense that advantageous/desirable characteristics more likely to be passed on/selected.
  • Both affect the characteristics gained by organisms over time.

  • In Artificial we chose the characteristics rather than the environment.
  • In Artificial tends to be one characteristic to an extreme, such as high milk yield rather than many characteristics which become more prevalent due to environmental pressure
  • Natural selection is down to chance/environmental selection

Overall comparison

Artificial selection is determined by humans where as Natural selection is determined by the environment, both affect the characteristics passed on overtime to a group of organisms.
