AQA GCSE Biology Unit 3 Valves

Advantages

MECHANICAL VALVES last for a long time and keep people alive
Increases quality of life (people are less breathless etc)
lasts a long time
BIOLOGICAL VALVES:
work extremely well
patient does not need any medication

Disadvantages

MECHANICAL VALVES need medication to stop the blood from clotting
medicine could potentially have bad side effects-take them for the rest of your life
BIOLOGICAL VALVES:
only last for around 15 years therefore need surgery again
used from animals, could be frowned upon from those who support animal rights

Evaluation

Altogether the mechanical valves work best as although the patient needs medication there are no issues surrounding it and they last for life unlike biological valves.
