Agency theory

Advantages

  • Explains different levels of obedience
  • Leads to Agentic state where people obey more when the orders are given with more authority.
  • It helps to explain unexplanable actions using the Agentic state and Autonomous state
  • It helps someone when they are found guilty

Disadvantages

  • There is another explantion for why people behaved that way using social power
  • The theory is less powerful than the explanation
  • The Agency theory is more of a description
  • It does not really explain in much more detail than the definition

Evaluation

The Agency theory helps to explain why people obey unexplainable orders even if against there will. However we know that a theory is less explainable than an explanation and is just more detailed than a definition. Although it will help someone when they are found guilty.
