Advantages

  • What if analysis can be used without having to rebuild the entire model
  • graphs can be produced to show trends automatically
  • model can be saved and backed up to prevent loss or damage
  • can be shared by email
  • no additional software needed as spreadsheets are basic business software, most people know how to use them and so little additional training is needed
  • quicker and cheaper to build a computer model than the real thing
  • only one model needs to be built, a physical model will have to be rebuilt everytime a change is made
  • safer to use as no lives are put at risk whilst testing it
  • can be sped up or slowed down to see effects that are hard to see in real life

Disadvantages

  • might not give an accurate representation of the real thing
  • some models are more complicated and need extra software which is expensive
  • models take a lot of time to test and make
  • some things are hard to model as they have lots of variables such as human behaviour

Evaluation

spreadsheet models generally imporve the convienience of models as they can be shared, saved, and are safer, but a good model can be exepnsive as it will need extra time and software
