Advantages and Disadvantages of Wireless (Wi-Fi or wireless Ethernet) connection

Advantages

  • Setting Up ~ All you need is a wireless router
  • Cost ~ Cheaper: only the cost of the router
  • Mobility ~ You can access the network from anywhere in the house and you can stay connected moving from room to room

Disadvantages

  • Bandwidth ~ Slower: 54 megabits per second (Mbps) New standards achieve up to 300 Mbps
  • Security ~ Poor: anyone within range can use it unless kept secure with a security password or key
  • Interference ~ Can be affected by walls, electronic equipment, distance from router and number of computers connected

Evaluation

Advantages and Disadvantages balance out. If you want Cheap, easy to set up internet with the ability to move from room to room without unplugging, then Wireless Connection is the way to go. However if you want secure and fast internet access without interference this may not be for you.
