Advantages and Disadvantages of Castellow

Advantages

Representative - the sample was representative of the target population in terms of gender
Validity - the IV was clearly manipulated with few co-founding variables
Inter-rater reliability - panel of judges rated the attractiveness together
Construct reliability - the results support the Halo Affect
Reliability - large samples

Disadvantages

Demand characteristics - extra course credit
Ethnocentrism
Hard to generalise to the target population as students were used

Evaluation

The advantages of Castellow are high due to the representative sample and reliability through construct and inter-rater. However, the students will be motivated by the desire for extra course credit and therefore the study is not as valid.
