  • Can make food more nutritious, eg Vitamin C in bread
  • Can be lower in calories, eg sweetener instead of sugar

Disadvantages

  • Links to ADHD and other behavioural issues
  • Some people, especially children, can have allergic reactions
  • Potential links to cancer - as yet unproved
  • Links to asthma
  • some may have a toxic effect
  • Can contribute to high blood pressure
  • Can makes the food less nutritious in comparison to using real ingredient
  • May be higher in calories

Evaluation

Despite the fact that additives save time, money and last much longer, they are not very good for peoples health. They can be linked to diseases such as cancer, asthma and are usually more fattening. So overall, it is better to all natural products rather than false food additives.
