  • As the play continues Blanche's mental instability grows
  • Her misfortune also grows throughout the play
  • She becomes more and more delusional
  • She also becomes more desperate - Mitch is no match for her but she's so alone that she tries to get with him
  • Her lies start to fall apart - her age, her history, the family house
  • It's quite clear that Blanche is suffering from delusions and confusion. An example of this is how she hears the Varsouviana plays in her head on different occasions.
