This is completing the square
So if you have something in the form x^2 +ax + b
To put it in the form (x+p)^2 +q you need to let p= a/2 and expand (x + a/2)^2 to find out what constant (q) you need to make it the original (b)

2. IM GUESSING YOU MISSED OUT THE ^2 by accident
(X - 1)^2 + 2
3. (X - 1/2)^2 + 7/4
