Chemistry 3- confused about barium chloride tests?

Really confused on the different reactions and when to add what to which substance! Thank you:)

When you add silver nitrate to barium chloride, a white precipitate is produced showing that chloride ions are present.

When you do a flame test, an apple green flame is produced showing that barium is present.
