What were the factors that prevented the discoveries of the Renaissance from being understood and illness being treated

Many people did not like to believe new ideas for a long time because they were 'stuck in their old ways'. They had believed in certain ideas for so long that they did not want to accept that they were wrong. 

Religion was still pretty strong (it did weaken in the Renaissance period - but many remained religious) and they wanted to accept that God was responsible for everything that happened. 

Doctors did not want to re-train because of the new ideas so they rejected them.
