What should the time period be of a pendulum in a pendulum clock?

Is it 1 second or 2 seconds?

If you start the pendulum from the left and release it, it would take one second to swing all the way to the right and one second to get back to where it started.

I only know cause I used to have this really annoying clock with a pendulum and i was so glad when it broke lol.

But surely the height of each swing would equal one tick, so it would need to take one second to get from the equilibrium position to the highest point on one side and back to the equilibrium position again? So then the time period would be 2 seconds over all? Or is one time period equal to one tick?
