All the past papers i've looked at are either about curley's wife or about how crooks is important to the novel as a whole and about George and Lennie's relationship of their friendship and normally how steinbeck uses animals to present some themes in Of Mice and Men

I'm not learning about 'Of mice and men' (instead im doing 'To kill a mockingbird') but the questions tend to be the similar.

In the exam that I'm facing in June the paper is split into 3:

  • Analysis of mood and atmosphere within the extract (in this you need to track the mood etc)
  • Write about either a certain theme throughout the book and how the author presents it or something about the importance of a character to the novel etc
  • Poem comparison essay - you get 2 poems and have to compare them etc

I'm not sure if this is the type of exam you will be facing but hope this helps anyway

well the question we had today was about crooks and how stienbeck uses him in the novel ... so if your revising revise CHARACTERS THEMES and you must know how Stienbeck uses them and the effects on the reader :)

did it today, the extract question for of mice and men was "how does JB Priestly create mood and atmosphere" at the end bit after Curley's wife is killed, and in the choice section you could either answer "Why is Curley and Curley's wife's relationship important to the novel" (i didnt answer that one) and "Which character do we have most sympathy for" (I chose crooks because in the mocks we had a question about how he was important to the novel and i got a good grade for it)

Yh same here it was about describing Slim and how Steinbeck influences the reader and then they asked us to pick another character and talk about how he's portrayed.

There will be two parts to this exam in which you will be given to complete. The first part will be an extract question. this is basically a small extract extracted from the novel. Within this section you have to refer to he next section the extract and nothing else. Don't try to be a big head here that's for the next section. The second section, you will be given to parts, in which you have to chooses only ONE part to answer. The question will be based on a theme or a character, e.g how does Steinbeck present loneliness in the novel?
