What is general Studies?

What is it?

and Is it a desired subject for university?

This might help:

"General Studies is a subject which encompasses all aspects of the world around us. It deals with politics, ethics, literature, language, culture, science, technology and mathematics. Candidates are therefore required to have a general knowledge of each of these fields and are examined on them accordingly.

Lessons normally take the form of structured debates about current events or themes relating to specific modules. Whilst it is nearly impossible to predict which topics will appear in the exams, it is important that candidates are able to analyse information and make balanced arguments."

Top universities will not accept it as one of your three a-levels and will not actually consider it at all. Other universities may accept it, but they will not regard it as highly as other subjects such as sciences, maths and humanities subjects.

I was just wondering because a lot of people seem to have taken it but when i chose my options for a-level i didnt really take it into account.

Yeah, and I dont think it was an option available at the school i really want to get in to, but i was slightly worried as to whether i should have chosen it or not at another of my school choices but im glad i didnt ;)

I don't do it either, and most of my friends dont really like it - they don't turn up to the lessons because they're not interesting. Plus the exams are like 2 hrs long. It takes up revision time that could be spent on more important subjects.

Many universites look down upon it  and its also very time consuming, its better to choose a subject of your own choice that you have an interest in

Yeah i agree Ameenah,

I dont know why people choose it or why it is offered if it is basically a pointless subject??
