What GCSEs do you need to get into Oxford/Cambridge?

Hi, I got 6A*s, 6As and a B at GCSE, and was wondering whether I have any hope of getting into Oxford/Cambridge if I apply...

Yes definitely. As much as people say that GCSEs are really important, and they are, just make sure you do really well in AS. You have to aim for the best grades in the first year of Alevels to show potential of getting the A*s they want.

Don't worry and concentrate on your A-levels.

Also, I think Oxford put more emphasis on GCSE than Cambridge. But both just want to see that you are continuously getting better and not getting worse.

Your GCSE grades sound amazing so keep up the standard and get better. Aim for the As in your first year.

Good luck.

Firstly congratulations on ur results.. u did well n i doubt ur gcse grades will stop you from applying to cambridge and oxford

However, like Alisha has said make sure u work hard for alevels and aim high as they will want really good A level grades and avoid retaking any exams unless u really need to.

Good Luck

I'd say you do have a chance, especially if you are going on to do Alevels in your best subjects? My sister went on a school trip to Cambridge (she's in the 'potential' group of her year unlike me!) but she told me what she was told as she's only in year 10 whereas I'm in year 12 so starting to look at universities unlike her :) Surprisingly she said that Cambridge highlighted they DON'T look at GCSE results which I was surprised at!! But they did say that most students who got offered a place had an got an average of like 6/7A*s so I'd say you do have a chance!

Good luck!!!

GCSE's are important but they don not weigh as much as your AS grades but the ones you have got give you a good chance of getting an interview.

To get into a russel group uni you need around 7 A*'s, and oxbridge is above that. If you do many extra curricular activities and get good A levels then maybe, but they do have insanely high standards. Well done btw
