Was religion the most important factor to explain why people were still reading Galen?

A really important history question. Anyone with any ideas, is muchly appreciated :D

Religion  helped medicine progress as well as hindering. For example in egypt when they mummified bodies it gave them knowledge about some organs and muslims translated galen s work.On the other hand in islam/christianity dissection was not allowed so it could not go further or churches wanted to stick with ideas of galen and didn't want to accept new ideas.And galen s work was proved wrong but it was useful because then other people could advance on it. So for your exam you will need to look at how war,chance,religion, government etch helped advance it/hindered it, so go through these factors as you will need it.
