URGENT!!! What is Azimuth and altitude and how do you use it to work out the position of a star?

I think I know this...

Altitude is how far (or how high -think of mountain altitude) a star is and at what angle from Earth.

Azimuth is the angle from the North.....but I'm not too sure after that. I just know in an answer you have to quote "angle from the North".

You can use to work out a position of a star because it sort of works out like coordinates, but I don't think you'll be asked to use it in that way, you'll probably be given some random numbers and be asked how they help to find the position of a star.
