Can someone explain to me the steps of how to carry out a titration please?
I am doing a past paper with this question in;
25.0cm3 of diluted vinegar was placed in a conical flask. The volume of sodium hydroxide needed to react completely with the ethanoic acid in 25.0cm3 of diluted vinegar can be found by titration using phenolphthalein indicator.
Describe how you would do this titration, including the names of any apparatus used?
I encourge you to look at the mark scheme after these steps (: The mark scheme may want you to answer it in a specific way.
So. First things first. You rinse your burette with Sodium Hydroxide, let it run through.
Then fill your burette with 50cm3 (or how much it holds, generally 50cm3) of Sodium Hydroxide.
Measure 25cm3 of your sample (diluted vinegar and ethanoic acid solution).
Add however many drops required of the Phenolphthalein indicator (often mentioned).
Then you perform your rough titrate, record results. Fill up your burette, rinse out your conical flask and add more of the sample and indicator. This time do it more precisely; repeat until you get concordant results that you are satisfied with (:
?: How'd my post go all funny...?
Anyhow, you are most welcome (:
