In February 1945 the leaders of Britain, USA and Ussr met at Yalta in Ukraine. Although the war was not yet over it was clear that they would win. The aim of the meeting was to reach an agreement on what would happen with post war Europe. Each leader wanted something different:

Churchilll- wanted to ensure survival of British empire but also saw USSR as a danger to the west that had to be stopped.

Rooseveltt- was not keen on the revival of the British empire and sought the creation of a free world that was protected by the UN. He wanted USSR to join the UN.

Stalin- sought the creation of a buffer zone between Western Europe and Russsia as a way of protecting the Soviet  Union.

There were several agreements that were made at the conference:

Stalin would allow free elections in Soviet occupying countries

Nazi war criminals would be hunted down and killed

Germany would be split into 4 sectors, one each occupied by Britain, France, US and USSR. Berlin would also be split in the same ways

Poland would gain land from Germany, but loose land to the USSR

Someone (a country) would declare war on somewhere (Japan?) three months after the end of the war with someone else- sorry, I can't think! :P

They disagreed on this: Stalin wanted to create a 'buffer' zone to protect the USSR from future attacks, he also wanted to cripple Germany, but the other allies wanted to build it up.

I think that these were the main events at Yalta, however, Stalin failed to keep his promise of allowing free elections and so this caused anger, and distrust among the allies.

Hope this helps!

Yes that's about it but it didn't work out to well when they didn't have a common enemy afterwards
