Explain two ways in which sociology has been useful in addressing social problems such as racism or poverty.

-sociologists have done/still doing researches into specific areas of society that might be funded from the Government for example what factors influence poverty ? is racism still common in contemporary society? By this, they are able to see whether it is or not and their research is published and promoted via media, so the public now is aware of it.

-To extend, the Government are able to come up with specific social policies to tackle poverty/ ie Free school meals for disadvantaged kids, sure start to get parents back to work so they can escape from poverty or for racism educate younger kids about the current legislations against racism and the downfalls/ implications on society. 

-Sociological theories such as Functionalism highlight that  main factors(racism/poverty) which prevents sociology to run harmoniously. Also, Marxism say that factors such as poverty and racism is the reason why we have social class inequality, preventing positive social mobility. Clearly, these sociological theories highlight what are the main social problems in society so we can address them
