A power boat race is run around a triangular course marked by three buoys A, B and C. AB = 1200 m,
AC = 800 m and BC = 1000 m.
a) Calculate the size of angle ABC.
During the race a boat breaks down after it has travelled a distance 200 m from B, along the leg BC, and has to be towed back directly to the start of the race at A.
b) Calculate the distance the boat is towed.
From I gather, you'll have to use the sine and cosine rules to answer this question, with the angle found in part (a) needed for part (b).
sine rule: a/sinA = b/sinB = c/sinC
cosine rule: c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - (2ab x cosC)
