Should education be free ?

Showing 1 to 24 of 24

What do you guys think on this motion. I would be grateful if people can give arguments both for and against this motion. Especially against as this is the more challenging side.

This is one point I have for against...

Encourages laziness ...

How could I expand on this point.. any tips or help ?

an argument for would be that it would allow all children from whatever background to have a good quality education. this would help poorer children to lift themselves out of poverty by getting good qualifications and therefore a good job.

how about

against-> if everyone had jobs+education, then it would create more pressure on people due to lack of jobs from education

hope this helps my Muslim sister!!!

Against - People may misuse this and even though they are not commited, they might take time and money from educational facilities

Posted: 02-07-12 13:42 by Lamise Hassan

thanks guys for your views.. very interesting :)

Posted: 03-07-12 17:44 by ? Secret - Team GR

true.. but then people might argue that education is the key to the sucess..

and the people who really want the education from the own will are the ones that are poor who can't afford education because the rich people are more than likely forced to go schools and not just any schools but like the grammar ones or the posh school, and therefore education should be free because this ensures that everybody gets the opportunity to be educated no matter your satus or wealth.

haha no, i like a good debate! In regards to your point, everyone may give all the opportunity to education but for what cost? Teaching, books, classrooms etc arent free so some way or another this would mean more money taken from the public - more taxes from people who are struggling as it is to make ends meet ; theyre not given the choice of whether they can afford education or not, they'd HAVE to pay the extra. Basically, can education REALLY be free?

- lool got slightly carried away there :p

Posted: 03-07-12 21:31 by Lamise Hassan

lool its alright dw.. yep i love debatin too :)

very interesting .. adding onto your point.. the money we use to educate people, where does it come from? Obviously it has to come from somewhere. Most of the money we get are from tax payers, but these people who we are taking money from they didn't benefit from education as education was a massive struggle to them so why should they be spending most of the money they earn towards people for education if they aint benefitting anything beside being at a possibe risk of losing the job. plus for them it will be harder to get a job if they lose one as they dont have any degress ect; unlike this generation who have lots of degrees, grades etc to show off..

Posted: 03-07-12 21:55 by ? Secret - Team GR

On the other hand people might argue back, saying that if we be selfish and think just about ourselves then obviously our world is going nowhere as the generation are not progressing. Time is developing so we need to invest more in important things like education...

without education people will not get good job, with good money.. high wages = high tax.. this means mroe money is coming to the government.. so they can spend more money on departments like education. therefore education should be free in order to keep the world at the right pace and ensure people are getting good jobs ect;

Posted: 03-07-12 21:58 by ? Secret - Team GR

Haha very good, a point against free education would be 'education inflation'. If everyone has good grades and a job like you say it will virtually be IMPOSSIBLE to choose between them for jobs, There will be a massive surplus of workers which can be something negative, as people will still find it difficult to get a job even though they have the qualifications, decreasing self esteem and motivation! :D P.s love ur display pic ;)

against: people who aren't really interested "clutter" the schools, they disrupt lessons and waste time and money... but I think that's more to do with outlook than economics... maybe it should be free but optional?

for: but then of course, people are allowed to fail, decreasing the country's skilled workforce, and that will negatively impact the economy

Against: people should have free will to make their own choices

for: some might not understand the implications exiting education will have on their lives

against: it could be explained to students

...

I'm arguing with myself... that's like... bad :P

i think education should defo be much lower.. the university fees are just extremely high.. because obivously if education is expensive it becomes a barrier for those who want to learn .. and get an education..yep im in year 10 XD i believe ur enjoyin urself, now exams r over

@ luna.. loool its okay arugin wiv urself.. eventhough it mite make u look like ur a loner..  dw ill argue wiv u ;)

Against: people should have free will to make their own choices

Yes people should have the free will but to be honest some things which are essential to our life, are compulsory for a reason. Our minds are still developing and giving ourselves such a big decision to make, about whether to go to schoool or not..really shouldnt be up to us, because from a young age we dont see the long term benefits of going school, whereas our parents and older adults know the long term benefits due to the experience they have had. Therefore, they make the decision on whether we shuld go to school or not, for our benefit and our help. Our parents want the best of us, and they dont want us to regret decisions we make, therefore although as humans we all have human rights and free will, there is always a restriction as mentioned above.

btw u can go bak to the topic.. should education be free

Posted: 06-07-12 22:23 by ? Secret - Team GR

Well, I go to a private school but I still am for this argument. People should not pay for intellect, its like, a basic human right. About 7 million people in the UK are illiterate, and if the education system was free then we would have a bit more sense. People such as those on 'Geordie Shore' (i don't watch it) make us look really dumb.
