Science ISA?

  • 1 vote

Hi, so I'm doing Part 1 of my Science ISA tomorrow. We had to devise a hypothesis, which I have done, and also detail how we arrived at this hypothesis (theory/explanation/reasoning). This is the part I'm struggling with, as I don't know what the second part means. My hypothesis is that the more light avaible to a plant, the faster the rate of photosynthesis. I'm not looking for an answer, but just an idea of what I should do to explain how I arrived at my hypothesis.

Thanks.

Well firstly have you done the experiment. If you have then use the results from your findings to explain why e.g talk about correlations etc.

Now if you haven't then what i think you can do is talk about the limiting factors of photosynthesis so talk about things like:

" I know that light, carbon dioxide, temperature and minerals are all limiting factors which affects the rate of photosynthesis. If light was my independant variable and all other variables are controlled, i come to the hypothesis that as you increase the light intensity, the rate of photosynthesis will increase. I have arrived at this hypothesis because i know that light is needed in the photosynthesis process and if you increase the light then it is going to produce more glucose from photosynthesis therefore will increase the rate at which the plant photosynthesises!!

im sorry that it is not good at all but hopefully if sume1 else posts as well it will be better than mine !!

I did that same controlled assessment. It really isn't that hard section 1 anyway I only dropped 1 mark on section one. So make sure you don't stress and the grade boundaries a low. My teacher told me it is 42/50 A* but that is real +3 so everyone can be secure that they achieved the grades if the grade boundaries changed so if it stays the same 39/50 A* but our teacher used real +3 which is much better in the end with both sections done which I done in year 10 I achieved 47/50 which I am hoping is 100 UMS but don't stress and if you have any questions feel free to ask me apart from the answers but section 2 will have a 14 mark question or 12 can't remember as I done it last year which you need to be careful with as it is a lot of marks you will drop if you don't do it properly but it is not that hard to pick up marks just make sure you time yourself well.
