SCIENCE AT UNI- please help :)

Showing 1 to 7 of 7

im currently doing my A-levels, and I'm studying Biology, Gegraphy and English Literature. I was wondering if anyone is doing a biology related course at Uni, because thats the direction i want to go with studies, but as i dont have chemistry I'm worried that i may have limited or no options for universities. does anyone know of any courses that are more flexible, but can still provide me with good biology qualifications? thank you!

Look at different university websites and it will say what subjects are needed there.

most of the time chemistry is needed for biology courses at the higher universities. However if you check the entry requirements of your desired university then you will find out more. You might want to email the university and ask them if your current subjects would get you onto the course you want to do. Often they can give you very helpful advice.

Hi Jess,

You'll need to check through the university entry requirements to see which universities offer what you're looking for - some universities want biology plus another science subject and often geography can be counted as a science subject. Email the universities and check. I'd highly recommend that you look at Bangor and Aberystwyth - they both just require A level Biology and are very reputable universities with strong reputations in the biological sciences.

I looked at the Nottingham Uni prospectus for Biology. They required at least 2 science subjects, you don't even have to have Biology A level! I think geography is a science subject.

Just try and aim for high grades, you could maybe do extra reading on biology and chemistry and write about it in your application. I expect they'd let you in with that

If you do not have the subjects that the university require then you will not get in - if they say that they want A level Chemistry and you do not have A level Chemistry then you will not get an offer regardless of how much extra reading you happen to have done. Geography is sometimes classed as a science subject and sometimes it isn't, you need to check with universities.

Yeah I wanted to do astronomy and I emailed the university I was interested in going to and I asked them if I could get in without maths Alevel if I still had 3 science Alevels, but they told me no matter how good my maths skills were, I would never get into the university without the actual alevel. So now i'm looking into doing a short course in astronomy so that I can still become an astrogeologist.
