Science can be seen as a open or closed belief system, closed belief systems make knowledge claims and cannot be disproved, this means that when they are challenged by contradictory evidence, they have 'get of clauses' and reject the evidence. Whereas some people reckon science is an open belief system, whereby they make knowledge claims which are open to criticism and can, in principle by proven to be false. Hope it helped!
