Yeah it's good, core 1 is okay but it gets harder. Which maths would you want to do? I do mechanics and would definitely not recommend it! A level maths is good if you like maths, and you do need to get A/A* at GCSE because you'll struggle otherwise.
it's really good but your algebra needs to be strong. it's posssible to do well at gcse without a firm understanding of algebra but it's vital at A level. Also, make sure you keep up with your maths over the summer. i know it sounds geeky but you'll be suprised how tough it is to get back into maths, especially after a really long summer :)
Mathematics is considered to be the most acedemic subject you can take. More so than any of the natural sciences. If you want your application to uni to be really stong, then take it. It is the best subject to have. If you apply to Cambridge for philosophy or economics, they prefer you have a maths a level than philosophy or economics.
In addition maths teachings good logic skills which will help in all aspects of life.
