Private messaging?

so that members can communicate without everyone seeing, similar to the private messaging feature on facebook? This would allow individuals to communicate, and help one another privately, so they aren't interrupted by others, and so that people who can't get online at the same times can still chat, without their conversations being washed away in a torrent of boards :)

I feel it needs that as well maybe like a mail feature so when you log on theres like a get revising mail box :)

so you can send someone a message while their offline because otherwise it just floods the discussions with things you already know

no,i think this would cause A PILE of problems...i mean there are a few trolls and nasty people on get revising...it may be an opportunity for people to prey on the vulnerable kids on this site...and what's the point this is  a revision site????...NOT A SOCIAL NETWORK LIKE FACEBOOK ,so why compare it to that...?it would side track the aim of this website which is to 'GET REVISING'---!!!!(SAYS IT IN THE TITLE TO MAKE IT COMPLETELY OBVIOUS....if you want to chat go elsewhere...

people would start ********* instead of revising, we want help not ****

I think that the messages should be monitored to make sure and a report abuse button because I think this is a good idea it just needs to be well monitored

Wasn't there a private messaging feature on get revising before??

I totally agree with Impulse, there should be a private messaging thing ^_^

I agree with Impulse as well...private messaging would get rid of half the problem of having general discussions deleted! xD

First of all if someone sends abusive vocabulary you just report it, whether its on a discussion, a resource or private message the impact is the same and can be dealt with easily.Secoundly, of course i understand where your coming from and saying don't turn it into a social netwrking site but the vast majority of us are inclined to help each other revise and instead of clogging up discussion rooms with explanations for one person it would be much easier just to use private messaging.

Finnaly sounds strange, but by having private messaging people are actually safer from nasty people as it means some people do not need to give their social netwroking accounts or email accounts to talk to people about revision as I have noticed people are putting on their profiles, their email accounts which can lead to a lot of spam junk mail which can't be reported on this site.

If you are still worried that its a bad thing, i am more than happy to carry on discussing it, but as i said in my opinion its a good idea. (of course not video messaging only chat)

well, Ragnaros wrote a good essay.

:D all in a days work !

but its a good thing it will provide us with much more benefits then problems in fact the only problem that may occur is the existing problem of a minority of people using the website to be nasty, which i have seen happen in discussions and resources and private chat will stop those peole from being offensive/abusie outside of get revising where they can be banned.

Posted: 31-05-12 13:54 by Ragnaros the Firelord

yeah. I think GR should see people's behavior and see how rude they are being, instead of just looking at people's reports. THEY ARE TROLLING YOU, GR!

EXHIBIT 'A' OF WHAT WILL COME WITH PRIVATE MESSAGING!

....then a bit of causal flirting and then contact details....must i go on...?

and realistically ,GR monitoring 1000s of conversations ?come on ...VERY unlikely to be monitored carefully!

Posted: 31-05-12 15:57 by anonymous

No private messaging, we're here to revise. Nothing else. :-)

Posted: 31-05-12 16:45 by Meghna

To answer anonoymous' problem, i did not say GR need to monitor everyones conversations because if there is any offensive language being used, that person can use the REPORT MISUSE button on the top of the screen just the same as in resources and the forums so GR will only need to monitor the comments that have been reported.

seocundly, i do not understand the diffrence between typing in the forums and typing in private messaging, of course some people will misuse it but some people misuse forums,

What I am trying to say is that the vast majority of people who use get revvising will use it for revision prurposes just like the vast majority of people on the forums, this tool will allow people to explain their resources without clogging up the forums.

Posted: 31-05-12 17:54 by Ragnaros the Firelord

and by not having private chat people have already given away their email accounts and social networking accounts so they can talk outside of this website so i think private messaging will help prevent that as they don't need to talk to someone they don't know outside of GR.
