Police Powers

Showing 1 to 3 of 3

The police must respect the individual's civil rights. People are entitled to move freely and to have their property respected. But there must be sufficient powers for the police to investigate crime. These powers include

-the right to stop and search suspects

-the right to arrest and interview people when it is necessary and take fingerprints and 'blood' samples for scientific analysis

The Law on police powers is mainly contained in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984
