English and Maths are subjects that NEED to be high grades in general for a job such as a dentist. I know someone who wants to be a doctor and he's aiming for A's in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The others aren't essential but the more GCSE's you have the better qualified you are to get into a University, because Universities still look at you're GCSE grades. I'm in year 11 and about to sit my Unit 3 Science exams so I have more info if you need it.
