need help on C3 - cation and anions - identifying ions?

well im studied C3 further science, and these have really got to me? not a clue what they are on about on the revision booklet i have, or on any of the revision notes i have come across on here? i dont know what are example and what i need to remember for my exam? any help?

cations- positive, e.g. Mg2+

anions- negative, e.g. Cl-

I made a poster ages ago about identifying each ion and what it is if you would like! Just go onto my resources! Good luck with your exams

do i have to remember what colour each metal or non metal shows when it is burnt? such as potassium is lilac?

^ Yeah all of them and teh negative ions as well (  if oyu are dong AQA) I have a powerpoint on them if you need help :)

You must know the colours when they burn. Positive and Negative ions. This isn't too hard make them rememberable like Potassium...Pa pa p gives purple which is lilac :p

Halides,Carbonates etc also need to be learnt.
