mobile phones had a hugely negative impact on the London riots, rioters communicated through the use of BBM, a mobile phone app for blackberries. Without said app, the riots probably wouldn't have happened. On the other hand, mobile phones allowed rioters to get their message heard.

Negative impact in my opinion. Generally mobile phones were available to everyone who took part. The ease of communication to a very wide range of people that they provided facilitated the clearly organised riots that we all saw on TV. If people didn't have such easy access to mobile phones then it's unlikely that the riots would have been such a problem - we would have seen lots of small, isolated incidents instead. To be honest though if it hadn't been mobile phones that sparked it all off then it would have been something else, for instance; Facebook, Twitter, MSN etc.

hey...what an interesting topic to do some research on....

...advantages of havin a mobile phone during the london riot

-Fast and effective communication between roiters via email/bbm/fb means that they are able to plan the riots more quickly and in-dept as they are able to detect the "weak-spots" or their "targets" more effectively. This, in my opinion, was one of the main catalyst to what made the riots  more successful for the rioters

...did the london riot benefit the police in anyways ??

-By using mobile phones the police are able to track down the rioters more quickly by analysing the communication tools they use to communicate with the people i.e. internet by using their i.p addresses, i guess. this means that they are able to pinpoint who is sending what message thus track them down and throw the crooks into prison

-Its a wakeup call/reality check for our nation about the youths today...they dont have the "drive" to work/get an education, they are unhappy about the rise in unemployment/increase in tuition fees for uni but rather mug people to get the goods they want. So i guess the Police are more vigilant about youths today

I'm not sure if this is right but one advantage of moblie phones to the police is that they can use any calls or messages sent to find the address of the particular rioters and therefore they are able to make more arrests.
