Im debating on what to take for 6th form-maths or geography??

I want to go into medicine for uni- so I thought I should take maths as that is a high level subject but I don't really enjoy it and have literally just got an A. On the other hand I really enjoy geography and am really good at it(plus they are doing lots of trips abroad :D) My other subjects that are definite are Biology, Chemistry and 'Philosophy and Ethics'.

Well i know maths is an important subject but if you don't enjoy it don't take it, there is no point taking a subject you won't enjoy for the next 2 years as you will be bored in lessons and that will both reflect in your grade for maths and maybe your other subjects.

although for medecine maths would be be,tter you aready have 2 sciences so it shoulden't really matter.

If i was in your shoes, i would pick geography but its your decision so weigh up the importance of maths with having a more enjoyable time at school and pick. :) either way good luck

hey...i am planning to go into medicine as well...and my options for next year is Biology, Chemistry, Maths (statistics) and Geography...

i fyou dont really like maths...dont take would be a lot better if you took geography...its not going to affect your chance of getting into medecine much as geography is also seen as a good subject for either way no harm done -shrugs-

anyway good luck ! and i hope i was of some helps xD

According to the website

Hi Zoyya

The majority who do a degree in medicine take as you said biology and chemsitry as this is a requirement. The next most chosen A-level is maths (71% take this a-level and do a medicine degree) whereas only 11% take geography.

Another interesting thing to note is that out of those 71% of people who did maths a-level and did a medicine degree 90% of them got As. Out of the students who took geography 93% got As.

It's always interesting to know the facts.

My advice is take what you enjoy - not what has better trips!

Good luck :)

Personally i'd go for geography, but it's really up to what you want to do in the future

Maths may be a good choice with your subject combo as it goes pretty well with the sciences but if you hate it and think you will struggle, it is better to do a subject you are good at and will enjoy. I want to do medicine also and I am doing maths but if you have any universities is mind, look at their websites and see what a levels they want you to have. All want chem and most want bio but some want another science and maths subject whilst others don't so make sure you will be eligible for your uni choice. :) Other that that I would choose geography!

I would say geography as your more likely together a better grade if you enjoy it also if medicine doesn't work out it gives you other options :))

Take Maths, because it will get you further in life. I reckon your career choices would be a little more limited if you took Geography, but obviously its your call. =P
