I dont know how to prepare for a controlled assessment in GCSE English

Hi Guys,

Im in year 11 and i have a controlled assessment of Tess of the d'Ubervilles by Thomas Hardy. And i dont know how to prepare for this and my teacher said it was really important.

Any suggestion on what i should do ?

It depends on the type of question you get. For example, I am studying Of Mice and Men for which the Controlled Assessment question was "How does Steinbeck create atmosphere in the first chapter?". I re-read the first chapter and highlighted the parts that I felt were relevant, such as how the lighting is used to create atmosphere (e.g. as the sky darkens toward the end of the chapter, it reflects a darker mood and may foreshadow the end of the book).

I then put together a mind-map plan with key points that I wanted to include in my essay. I'm doing the WJEC board and you allowed to take an A4 piece of paper of notes into the controlled assessment but even if you aren't it makes for a great revision technique!!
