There are 2 options for primary education. The first (http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/?view=CourseDetail&code=UUFPRE1) is Early Primary Education a 3 year course involving a number of placements and opportunities in schools. At the end you get your degree and Qualified Teacher Status so you can begin applying for jobs!

An alternative option is a PGCE in Primary Education (http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/?view=CourseDetail&code=GTFPRE6) which is a 1 year course after you have completed your initial degree. This means you can study another subject e.g. Geography for 3 years then move into primary education if you choose.

Finally, if you want to test whether teaching is for you before committing to a 3 year course, Northumbria offers the Students Into Schools scheme (http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/brochure/visit/el/sis/) offering you the chance to get some experience in different educational areas from school based experience to tutoring.

Hope this helps :)
