How is the time between the arrival of P-waves and S-waves proportional to the distance of the station from the earthquake?

In a mock paper I was doing I came across this chart showing three different stations; L, M and N. They are research stations for earthquakes.

At station L the time between the arrival of the P-wave and the arrival of the S-wave was 1.5 minutes

At station M the time between the arrival of the P-wave and the arrival of the S-wave was 3 minutes

At station N the time between the arrival of the P-wave and the arrival of the S-wave was 5 minutes

How can I use this chart to say whether the following statement is true or not? (P.s I know the statement is true, but I need to relate it to the chart)

A student suggested that the time between the arrival of the P-Wave and the arrival of the S-Wave was proportional to the distance of the station from the earthquake.

I know it's hard to understand without the chart, but any help is appreciated.Thanks
