HOW DOES STEINBECK PRESENT RELATIONSHIPS OVERALL IN OF MICE AND MEN?

I'm starting my controlled assessment (coursework) tomorrow in class and my cw question is how does Steinbeck present relationships in Of Mice and Men so I need an introduction that includes everyones relationship in the novella i.e. George and Lennie and how their relationship is presented.. but my main idea is that Steinbeck presents relationships in a negative way overall. This sounds kind of confusing so sorry..

Thanks!!

Erm I would mention loneliness as that is an overall theme in the novel and say how that links in with the different relationships for example lennie is lonely because he has mental problems and there is no-one to relate to therefore he is lonely but seeks comfort in george. George is lonely because of this, he has to take care of lennie. Then you could mention the relationship between Curley and Curley's wife and portray the idea that each character is linked by loneliness.

You can talk about the minority group - how they have poor relationships and they're always lonely... Lennie feels lonely as he gets ditched by George, Crooks feels lonely because of his skin colour, Candy feels lonely because his dog dies, Curley's wife feels lonely as she's not treated the way she wants to be and she's the only female in the novella
The setting of the story in the beginning reinforces the theme of loneliness as Soledad means 'solitude' in Spanish
You can talk about the American Dreams and show the relations between the dreams of each character

you could also include how curleys wife is like eve in the garden of paradise and how steinbeck presents the dream of george and lennie like paradise  . Also the way curleys wife is a possession could be linked to the way lennie is owned by george jand you know this when curley hit lennie and lennie kept asking george whether or not to defend himslef
