x/2 -2y = 5 x2 so it becomes x - 4y = 10

x + 12y = 2

So:

x + 12y = 2

x - 4y = 10

____________

16y = -8

y = -1/2

Put it back into x - 4y = 10

so: x - 4(-1/2) = 10

x + 2 = 10

x = 8

In order to check, use 12y + x -2 =0

12(-1/2) + (8) -2 = 0

So x=8 and y=-1/2
