I am really struggling with revising poetry for my GCSE, any help with what I could do?

You could try getting hold of a copy of each poem you're studying and just annotate it. Make notes on language (metaphors, descriptions, similes, tone) structure (stanza layout, rhyme and rhythm) and themes in the poem. Also write a short overview of what the poem is about. Make lists of adjectives and what they connote (eg beacon connotes, hope, light, happy ending).

Try some past questions so you know how to analyse a poem and compare it with another poem, get your teacher to mark them. If you're doing AQA then heres a link to their past paper page http://web.aqa.org.uk/qual/newgcses/english/english-literature-materials.php?id=01&tabid=9. I also find this website helpful for making notes if I get stuck http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/english_literature/ (go to the bottom of the page for poetry)

Good luck for your exam!
