How do you know from a list of successive ionisation energies, which element they belong to?

the question might give you an idea of which group it is.

group 8 have VERY high IE. the trend from G1 - 7 is that it rises.

If there is a great big drop from one to another it is a G8 to G1. (eg. Ne to Na)

from there just count. you could also use the subshell rules (like filled and half filled orbitals need more energy to ionise etc.)
