How did everyone find the English AQA GCSE Unit 2 exam?

Showing 1 to 25 of 35

I did the relationships cluster and compared Quickdraw with Hour (which I now really regret!!) but thought the question choices weren't too bad.

How did everyone else do and what clusters did you study?:)

Snap I did the same Jade. Why do you regret it?

aaa phew! :) I was pretty confident in the exam but when I walked out a lot of people in my year said that the poems 'don't go together'. But i figured they'd be good to compare, even though they were about completely different stages of a relationship. Thanks for your comment, it's made me feel better now haha! How did you find it?

i did the relationships cluster...and but chose the other question...and compared Praise song for my mother with Harmonium :D it was ok...but i know it wasnt good...so i am just hoping for the best...

one of my friends did Quickdraw with the Manhunt...she really liked writing about it..

I planned for those two poems and then I was panicking because I realised they are both by Carol Ann Duffy but then I was like it's ok I know they go well together and it doesn't matter that they are by the same poet. My friends all did different ones - I don't think there were many the same! How did you find the unseen?

Posted: 24-05-12 18:10 by Georgia

haha same! I didn't think the unseen poem was too bad compared to previous years :) There was quite a bit to write about the structure, language and stuff which was good! How did you find it?

the unseen was really weird...i didnt know what to write about..in the end my essay is all about the how children are naive and how the poem relates everything to something wartime-y and how there are some harsh 'ssssss' which gives a sinister feel...and aggressive verbs like 'ripped', etc.

so in short...i blabbed and probably got like a band 2-3 :(

well hopefully not... -fingers crossed- i did well :)

how did u find it??

I was really happy usually I don't understand the poem and just end up bulls**ting the whole thing!! I understood a lot and had a lot ot write! I am going to look up other peoples interpretations in a minute

thanks Jade...lets just hope the examiners think so too :D :)

quickdraw and hour..that would have been really interesting...why did u pick hour?? :? i mean its a good choice...but i always compared quickdraw with in paris with you...it just seemed the easier choice... -shrugs-

Posted: 24-05-12 18:15 by Namita

haha I know what you both mean! I just blabbed on about stuff which seemed really pointless and how it was perceived by a young child. I finished JUST as time was up though so I was releived! could have written more though :/

Posted: 24-05-12 18:16 by Jade

i could have probably written more and probable better if i had time...i hate having a time limit when u r trying to analyse something! if u want us to do good..give us time...otherwise u r just trying to find ways to laugh at our work!

From reading the examiners reports from previous years I think the board wanted to give us an easier poem so our ideas were more developed as this was something they think has been lacking in previous years

Posted: 24-05-12 18:20 by Georgia

oh...well that make sense...i thought they would go with Farmer Bride or something...and i had nothing on that poem...well not much compared to the others...

Posted: 24-05-12 18:21 by Namita

i was preying that they didn't use Farmer's Bride or Born Yesterday. They would be so hard! I wonder what the questions were in the foundation tier!

Posted: 24-05-12 18:24 by Jade

Born Yesterday is a lovely poem...but again i didnt want it on the paper...cause i wouldnt have much to say on it...

i love Sonnet 116, Ghazal and Hour from our cluster..i thought they were beautiful poems and the only thing i wish is that i didnt have to do essays on them :/

i quite liked the witty To his coy mistress as well... :p

Posted: 24-05-12 18:28 by Namita

Yeah same :/ I was really prepared for Sonnet 116, To His Coy Mistress and Hour. It's a shame that none of them came up because they would have all compared well!

Posted: 24-05-12 18:30 by Jade

yeah it would have been nice...i could have seemed clever with those ones...but oh well...i made do with what i was given...we cant do much about it now...i hope all my other lit marks make for this exam...this will probably be the worst piece i have done for lit...so far it was good :/ i wishing...hoping for the best :D

So I completely messed up on this paper and decided (I don't know what possessed me!) to compare QuickDraw with brothers (!)...I've written a decent analysis of both poems and an okay comparison- but how badly do you think I'd be marked down for picking a bad poem? X

as long u had points and evidence for chosing the poem...they cant mark u down...there is no right or wrong answer to english questions...and so u should be ok with chosing brothers...as long as u said y u chose it...and u compared it well...u know with poetic devices, structure, form, etc. xD

Haha okay thanks :) that's helped me feel more relaxed about it! Urgh just gonna rely that I did well on the paper 1! I said about how he felt bitter and angry towards his brother for having to drag him along, and how he felt remorseful towards him for abandoning him...hope it should be okay!

Posted: 24-05-12 19:02 by Farz

^ Yeah I'm sure you'll be fine! :) I didn't feel confident with my choice, but as long as you justify your reasons it would make a good comparison. They both showed anger towards each other which is a good link :)

I did the exam this after noon and compared quickdraw and the farmers bride, and I felt it went really well!

Farz and Jade...i completely get what u guys mean...i am not completely happy with the paper we did today...but i am depending on the paper 1 and the controlled assessment marks to make up for any 'errors' " _ "

Georgia Sowden...i am sure u did reallly well... xD
