Help! I need words to make me sound intelligent!

I am always reading all these AMAZING essays where people use all these posh words i didnt even know existed so i was wondering if anyone knew some good intelligent sounding words that might help me in my AS history exams

what i did was go through all the essays with a higliighter and pick out the 'intellegent' bits that i can use in my own essays :P
then write them all up somewhere and revise them

In the years leading up  to ......there had been many conflicts over ...... and other issues
Explanation on the conditional and contingent factors need to be considered in ocntext
It can however be argued the most significant conditional factor was...
There are however, many factors that must be considered and their importance in causing ...... assessed

I did find a really great word the other day actually it is oppugn and it means to question the validity of something which i think is pretty perfect history wise :-P x

I have a few more for conclusions/Introductions/Sentence startes so if you need any more for one of those just say which one :)

No its AQA but theyre at the same time because one of my friends is doing OCR and hers are at the same time as mine

I am doing Charles I's reign and Louis XIV's reign because they are the build up to two civil wars :-) x

I have remembered some quite good words with are zenith and nadir.

Zenith means peak (so like peak of power) whereas nadir means lowest point (nadir of power).
