question:

give an example of the use of an alkane in a commercially important reaction?

i don't get it?? is it like making ppetrochemicals or something?? really confuzzled.. any help would be greatly appreciated :) thanks ***

Alkene - ethene or propene

  They can react with oxygen in the air, so they could be used as fuels. But they are more useful than that. They can be used to make ethanol - alcohol - and polymers - plastics - two crucial products in today's world.
