I don't know if you have been given the task before the exam starts but if you haven't make sure you do the following steps:

  1. Read question
  2. Underline key words
  3. Indentify the GAP (genre, audience, purpose) you are writing
  4. Write a plan 4/5 points
  5. Order the points logically (biggest points first)
  6. Write in developed but focused paragraphs
  7. Change parapgraphs to reflect change of topic/time/opinion

As lisa said above use literacy devices a good way to remember them are:

Rhetorical question

Emotive language

A FORREST - double R for repetition

for more tips see http://getrevising.co.uk/resources/aqa_gcse_english_language_writing_paper I made it for the AQA exam but I'm sure you could apply some of it to your exam

Hope this helps and good luck :)

I would suggest trying to get some literary devices in there as they're sure to pick up some marks and maybe even bump you up a level score. For example alliteration, metaphors, similes... research literary devices! Use some interesting sentence structure too! :) Good luck!

And in your controlled assessment, i think you're allowed a dictionary. Leave enough time at the end to double check spellings etc

Try to use rhetorical devices such as rhetorical questions, appeals of sympathy, lists of three, metaphors, onomatopia and much more.

I would say vary paragraph lengths and structure them carefully plus all that has been said. Use short one sentence paragraphs for emphasis and longer ones for description. Always start and end paragraphs powerfully so maybe using a literary technique. OCR examiners like this but I'm sure it will be the same for you! :)
