Well like chubby has said what sort of essay are you doing about, because then that way I could help you more.

I have shared a powerpoint with verbs which are really good to use instead of using common words and repeating yourself. Verbs replacing words such as "this suggest", "this shows" etc;

These words help me get high grades, so I hope they help you too :) good luck !

the best way to write an english lit essay is to use the 5 x 5 method.

you should write 5 paragraphs and in each start of with your topic sentence; your main point. then, continue with 5 points relating to your topic sentence.

if you are writing an essay about poetry you should track the text and firstly talk about content. also, make sure you discuss themes, structure, layout etc about the poem. lastly, write a conclusion.

In all of your English writing assements or exams you should always use the linguistic terminology such as ...

  • One word sentence and a one word paragraph
  • List of three
  • Similie
  • Personification
  • Alliteration
  • Metaphor
  • Onomatopia
  • Repetition
  • Rhetorical Question etc ...

I normally make a list of them at the side of my paper and tick them off when I include them so I can get them all in to get good marks. So far I have got 3 A* , 2A's and 1 B

It has worked very well for me. Also I tend to create A3 coloured mind maps !! :)

Hopes this helps for you :D
