Geography or Chemistry A-Level

  • 2 votes

Hi Everyone

I've just finished my GCSEs and am deciding my a-levels, Im thinking of studying Engineering at uni, probably Mechanical Engineering (or Civil) and i would like to take Maths, Physics, Further Maths for a-level but im not sure whether to do Geography or Chemistry as my fourth subject?!?

I enjoy both subjects, so really dont know which one to choose, what do you guys think? Anyone done either course? Anyone doing both? How did you find it? Any info is really much appreciated :)

thanks for the quick answer :) basically they want maths and physics for definite and arent too bothered about the other 2 subjects (unless you do Chemical Engineering, then they want Chemistry) so i really cant decide which to do :S

and just wondering if chemistry would keep open the whole medical science thing if i changed my mind or if geography wud be better to show i can still write essays and use good analysis? any ideas?!

Is there any way that you can start with 5 then drop one? My school lets people take 5 if they can't decide for half a term then drop one as long as they make their intentions of dropping one clear, if i were you i'd talk to your school about it. If that fails talk to yoour teachers. They'll know better what you'll be good at and what will be most useful for your chosen career :)

I have always enjoyed geography too, so I would go for that, but chemistry may be better if you want to do engineering at uni, maybe if you look at a uni prospectus to see what a levels they would want for you to do engineering.

Geography can go into many different paths, personly I would go for geography, but thats only because I'm good at it and rubbish at chemistry, is there either you like more?

It's easy in comparision to chemistry

and they are both sciences

although you should look into what you want to do at uni, some courses e.g biology prefer you to have chemistry but would except georgaphy as an alternative as they are both sciences:)
