Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the plan to build thousands of offshore wind turbines around Britatin and the suggested electricity power link between Britain and Iceland. (6 marks)

I found this question in a past paper but I can't find the mark scheme for it: (Physics P1 Higher Tier. Wednesday 20th June 2012) and it would be really helpful if you could let me know.. Thanks :)

+ It would generate electricity that is not going to produce CO2 or other greenhouse gases.

+ It will not take up land which could be used for food (crops, animals etc) or housing.

+ It will not destroy land habitats.

+ It will not cause noise pollution.

+ There is more wind at sea than on land, so there will be suitable amounts of electricity generated.

+ It will create an eyesore - the seaside views would look tacky and ugly.

+ Construction of the turbines out at sea is a complex and highly expensive procedure.

+ Costs lots of money to maintain, especially since it is more difficult to repair them when they are out at sea compared with on land.

This is for the plans to build offshore turbines. Not sure about Britain-Iceland power link.

Hope this helps.
