GCSE geography results

Hi, back again, just wondering were you effected by that problem with the gcse english, I got a B but I had A in both my mocks, so I'm a bit annoyed about it, but relieved I got a B.

well, i'm pretty happy with my results, I got B in english language, which i expected. I had a C in literature, but that's ok, although i was predicted a B. (i messed up one controlled assessent, that's why)  I only did 1 exam this summer for literature, everything else i did last year or january :)

What exam board did you do? I did WJEC.

I did AQA and apparently they've been making the grade boundries hard for a while, I spoke to my english teacher and she said that they've been doing it for years, she said i should have got an A, but cause of what they've been doing I got a B, that was all I needed but an A would have been nice, i got an A in english lit though, but some people failed english when they shouldn't bcaeacuse they made the grade boundry between C and D really high, about 10 marks higher than it should have been, unfair.

wow, that's really unfair, cause if someone is aiming for a B or a C, and suddenly they're expected to get 10 marks more, that's not gonna work...

I know, especially if all you want to do is pass english, and we didn't even know we had to work harder to get 10 more marks, they changed this after the exams.

yeah, they shouldn't have done that, at least not just like that without telling you before...

I'm very glad that they didn't do that with maths, but my history coursework went down 5 marks which ment it went down from a A to a B, but I still got A overall, I wish they didn't do that because I was 5 marks off an A* overall and I could have got that if they didn't put my coursework down.

ahh, they shouldn't do that that's not fair, how are we supposed to get better grades, if they do that?

just been looking at your profle, what's classical civilisation like, what is it about?

Posted: 27-08-12 21:23 by Thegirlwhoknewtoomuch - Team GR

well, we were reading ancient literature, in year 10 Ovid ,and Odyssey in year 11. We had to analyse it, we talked about culture and how it's presented :) it's interesting, but i had to write a 10 pages essay as a controlled assessment xD

Posted: 27-08-12 21:37 by Natalia

is it a bit like history and english lit then?

Posted: 27-08-12 21:38 by Thegirlwhoknewtoomuch - Team GR

yeah sort of (more english lit actually)  xD i didn't really like, but that's cause i'm not into writing subjects xD it was fun at times though.

what grade did you get?

Posted: 27-08-12 21:45 by Thegirlwhoknewtoomuch - Team GR

I got a B, I think I was like 2 marks off an A, but I'm pretty happy with B :) I had A* in coursework and C in the exam. I was a bit disappointed with the C, cause i though i did really well...

Posted: 27-08-12 21:48 by Natalia

well done. I think exams are going to get harder some people in the government say exams are too easy, as if!

Posted: 27-08-12 21:54 by Thegirlwhoknewtoomuch - Team GR

yeah, i think so too.. well, they should try and do them themselves to be honest... xD

Posted: 27-08-12 21:55 by Natalia

they say they are to easy in geography and science and maths.

Posted: 27-08-12 21:57 by Thegirlwhoknewtoomuch - Team GR

they've already changed the WJEC specification in sciences for the next year, and apparently it's exactly the same, it's just in different order....

but apparently they're stating to put in more longer questions in the exams...

my dad says that he thinks everything would be better if there was only one exam board, it could work but I'm not sure about that for some reason.

Posted: 27-08-12 22:19 by Thegirlwhoknewtoomuch - Team GR

i think it would be- that's what they do in Poland, so everyone in the country does the exact same exam at the exact same time, and it works :) i think it's more fair...
